- The 2016 1st team has exceptional players, many of whom have represented KZN at national events – most notably, the Vice Captain, Tegan Fourie, who has recently been selected for the SA Under-21 Women’s team, participating in the 2016 Women’s Junior World Cup in Santiago.
- The 1st team won the 2016 Spar KZN School Girls’ Hockey Tournament.
- The coach for this year’s St Mary’s Investec Hockey Festival team is Kelly Madsen, a St Mary’s Old Girl and South African Hockey player.
The KZN-leg of the Investec Hockey Academy will offer a wide range of courses, for both hockey players and coaches. Players can look forward to learning from their hockey icons in the Fundamental Players’ Course (ages 8 to 11), the Intermediate Players’ Course (ages 12 to 15) and the Advanced Players’ Course (ages 16 to 18).
The academy will also be offering an all new Advanced Schools Coaches Course offering school coaches the chance to interact with hockey specialists in order to learn skills such as mental toughness, injury prevention and nutritional advice. Coaches on this course will be able to engage with other coaches and players, taking part in discussions and exchanging of knowledge and skills.
