Potchefstroom Hockey Fraternity, You’re Next!

After very successful players’ and coaches’ courses in Ballito this past weekend, we are excited to be meeting and working closely with the passionate North West hockey fraternity this weekend. We welcome school players and coaches of all levels to join us for two days of learning, fun and sharing a love for hockey on 13 and 14 October at The High School for Girls Potchefstroom. If you aren’t sure what to expect, we share with you some of our highlights from our Ballito course this past weekend.

Our Ballito courses saw hockey players from all over KZN gather on the astro turf at Ashton International College where SA national coach Mark Hopkins, provincial coach Sihle Ntuli, provincial player Karen Bower, and SA national players Shelley Russell, Jethro Eustice, Jacinta Jubb, Louise de Jager, Jonty Robertson and Keegan Robertson brought their knowledge and skills to the field.

We chatted to some of the players attending about their love for hockey and their goals. Here’s what they had to say:

Monique Titus – Mid-fielder

Monique (Collegiate Girls’ High School) was the winner of the Investec Hockey Academy Bursary for best striker and most promising player of the tournament at Bloemhof in April 2017.

“I was shocked to have been selected for the bursary because it was so unexpected. I didn’t know Shelley Russell was at the tournament, so I was speechless when I found out that she’d chosen me.”

Going forward, her goals include making her school’s first team, being selected for the Eastern Province provincial A side, and finally making the South African U18 hockey side next season.

Jamie Da silva– Right Wing

Jamie (Northlands Primary School), who took part in our Fundamental Players’ Course, shared with us why she loves hockey.

“It is not like other sport – it’s a sport that lets you be who you want to be. It makes me feel free.”

She was excited about the Academy because she wanted to improve her field skills.

“I am very good at scoring, but I need to work on my field skills,” she said.

Emilee Coreejes – Forward

Emilee (Chelsea Preparatory School) attended our Intermediate Players’ Course.  Her hockey role model is Dutch hockey player Eva de Goede who plays the midfield position.

“Eva inspires me to be the best I can be in my position.”

As a forward, her favourite part about playing hockey is scoring. Emilee’s goal is to make the South African field hockey team one day.

Do you have hockey dreams like these KZN players? Are you a coach looking to further your knowledge? Join our iconic team of coaches this weekend, 13 and 14 October, at The High School for Girls Potchefstroom to get the solid foundation, best techniques and latest information on how to up your hockey skills and knowledge.
